Hair Transplants Treat Hair Loss For Women

Hair loss with women is highly typical as it’s normal to lose between 50-100 hairs a day. In some cases women can experience accelerated hair loss and can visibly see their hair thinning and balding in certain areas of the scalp overtime.

Hair restoration surgery is commonly thought to be mainly performed for men but it can actually cure androgenic alopecia also known as hereditary hair loss for women as well. On that note our New York ladies make up at least 40% of our hair loss clients that we treat at our clinic. Women mostly experience hair loss mid to later in life and seek a permanent solution to this condition.

While most people would rather keep their hair restoration journey to themselves, we ensure that we can develop an effective medical plan to achieve the most optimal results. Fortunately for these people, our leading technology is capable of performing the procedure without leaving obvious traces of a transplant- leaving you with beautiful natural-looking results.

Family History & Hair Loss

When it comes to common hair loss conditions it usually tends to show up from past family history. These conditions can consist of characteristics from thinning, balding or finer hair. In some cases you can experience hair loss due to medical reasons and this is normally considered a temporary symptom which can be caused by medication, stress or a health concern. Telogen effluvium is the medical term for temporary, dramatic hair loss that can be due to those concerns.

Hair Growth Cycle

Human hair typically grows within a cycle that consists of 3 phases: anagen, catagen and telogen. As every patient has their own unique characteristics, these cycles will still be in effect regardless. In order to better understand this growth cycle it’s important to know when the hair growth occurs and when hair may potentially shed on it’s own. Here is a look into a common hair growth cycle:

Anagen Phase: This phase is when the hair is actively growing. The hair follicles are created and form new hair shafts that can last from 2 to 6 years. Usually during this phase the hair grows about 1 cm every 27 days. This normally accounts for around 90% of hair that is on your scalp at all times. In some cases people have difficulty growing their hair beyond a certain length or experience thinning hair due to non-active follicles and can result in a growth period of about 30 to 45 days.

Catagen Phase: This phase is the transitional stage and can last from two to three weeks at a time. In this phase the hair growth will stop altogether. This results in the outer root sheath shrinking and attaches to the root of the hair.

Telogen Phase: Lastly Telogen is the resting phase. Normally during this phase the hair follicle is resting and the club hair is formed. When your hair cycle is in this phase the hair will shed normally which accounts for the hair that you lose on a daily basis.

Losing hair on a daily basis is normally expected but not in larger amounts. Some women who are experiencing hair loss would expect larger amounts of hair left in their hairbrush or pillow in the morning and would typically see space at the crown, middle and front part of the scalp. Another sign that indicates hair loss would be visual representation usually at the temples or hairline.

Women will commonly see thinning at the top of the head while keeping a thinner hairline intact. While this is most cases, there are many possible characteristics that play a role in temporary hair loss, while some are permanent. Hereditary conditions affect an estimated amount of 30 million American women which is a condition that is out of your control. Our New York FUE hair restoration treatment can create a permanent solution to this condition to promote healthy new hair growth within those thinning areas.

What Can I Expect Following My FUE Hair Transplant

Following your New York FUE procedure patients can typically expect to experience mild, temporary swelling and sensitivity to the scalp. These effects can be managed with prescribed pain medication or cold compress. There are certain physical activities that your surgeon will advise you to avoid such as swimming, and entering a hot tub in order to ensure the healthiest recovery and to avoid any risk of infection. Within a few days most patients are able to wash their hair and return to regular daily activities.

The FUE method has an impressive rate of 90% of “take” or permanence. In other words this method often only requires 1 session to achieve permanent long-term results. Following the procedure you will experience the shedding stage. This stage is expected after a few months from the date of surgery. Once you’ve reached around 1 year after your transplant you should see regrowth in the transplanted areas. This hair will look natural, dense and thicker to match the rest of the hair on your scalp.

New York Hair Transplant

Whether you’re seeking hair restoration surgery to add density to thin hair or wanting to fill in specific areas of the scalp, our leading FUE hair transplant method is the most effective treatment to achieve permanent long-lasting results. Our experienced New York hair loss specialists can determine if you’re a good candidate for this type of treatment to achieve the most optimal results.

Hormones & Hair Loss

In some certain cases enhanced hormone shifts and stress-related conditions can cause hair loss. If you’re experiencing these changes it may affect and result in hair loss which will be considered temporary. In order to determine whether you’re a good candidate for a hair transplant procedure, we recommend speaking with your New York hair loss expert to determine the best treatment for your case.

While hormone shifts can cause hair loss, mental and emotional stress can also play a part in your hair loss experience. It is a normal side effect to lose or have shedding hair after a few months after a traumatic event.

Health and Hair Loss

An important aspect that plays within the determination of your qualifications to be a good candidate for a hair restoration procedure is your overall health condition. Certain medical conditions can affect hair loss and it is crucial to determine whether that is the cause of the hair loss or if it is regarding another condition that you’re experiencing. Here are some of the medical conditions that can affect your hair loss:

  • Dysfunctional thyroid may result in balding or thinning of the hair.
  • Weight loss and deprivation diets can cause your body to shed hair in larger amounts.
  • Anemia or Iron deficiency is also a common condition that leads to thinning hair.
  • Hormone level shifts during pregnancy or menopause can also lead to hair loss.

Most of these types of hair loss contributors are often temporary and so is the hair fallout which should resolve itself over time or by using dietary, topical hair growth solutions. If you are a candidate for a hair restoration procedure with hereditary pattern hair loss we do recommend that the best and safest solution for you is the FUE HARRTS method regrowth technology.

Hair Loss Treatment FUE Procedure

Prior to the New York hair loss procedure women do not need to have their hair cut or shaved. Your plastic surgeon will move the hair out of the way separating the treatment and donor area into separate sections. The donor site will be the area that the HARRTS extraction device will be used to gather the follicles. Those micro grafts will then be removed meticulously to ensure no scars are shown at the donor site.

The hair transplant itself will be painless due to topical freezing that will be applied in those specific areas, in some cases local anesthetic can also be injected to the area to keep you comfortable throughout the procedure. Rather than other methods the FUE technique leaves no discernible marks or scarring which makes this method highly popular to most patients.
