FUE NYC Hair Implants – results timeline

The most common question we receive from our patients about our hair restoration procedures is – when can I expect to see my results?

We’ve broken down the FUE hair transplant timeline to better explain when you can expect your new hair growth.

Nowadays hair often plays a crucial role in our sense of identity regardless if you’re a man or woman. Since hair loss can affect you from as young as 20, with 2 out of every 3 men reporting hair loss or baldness in their lifetime and up to 50% of women experiencing hair thinning as well, our NYC location only provides the leading forms of hair restoration treatment in order to promote the most optimal end results.

Self-image and self-esteem is constantly affected if you experience pattern baldness or thinning hair. For men in particular, having thick hair is associated with virility, health, and success. At Nova Medical Hair Transplant NYC our objective is to restore that feeling of youthfulness and confidence from within through the power of a FUE hair transplant procedure.

Surgical treatment options in the past promised a cure for hair loss but never delivered the optimal results that would be long-lasting. The results that were delivered at that time were disappointing and left a linear scar at the back of the head where donor grafts were sourced. Hair implants and transplant surgery options that were available at the time also required a longer recovery time and discomfort during healing.

Through the years, there have been exciting advancements in hair transplant technology that has led to the leading development of HARRTS. This Follicular Unit Extraction treatment option delivers natural-looking, discrete and permanent hair restoration. At the New York Hair Transplant Clinic, we are proud to offer this leading treatment option as one of our hair restoration procedures. HARRTS is the hair loss industry’s most efficient, minimally invasive procedure developed by physicians, medical scientists and engineers. If you’ve been seeking a minimally invasive FUE hair transplant procedure at our NYC location, you can expect to reverse the effects of hair loss and restore your confidence. Since each patient varies on a case by case basis, you may be wondering how long it will take to fully see restored hair growth and we have broken it down for you.

When is it appropriate to seek treatment?

Many patients suffer from male pattern baldness and are curious about when they should seek treatment for their condition. Male hair loss is often gradual and can begin as early as the age of 20 years old. That being said, a hair transplant may not be the first solution that they will look to. There are many characteristics that come with hair loss and in some cases it can occur due to medications that have unwanted side effects. In this case, if you’re losing hair due to medication, there are people who would immediately gravitate to topical treatments, or hair loss vitamins that are marketed to help with hair growth but in fact do not regrow hair.

Whether you’ve just started noticing thinning hair, have a receding hairline or bald spots, FUE is a safe hair transplant option for patients of all ages. In most cases, 25% of males that are experiencing hair loss start in their early twenties, while two-thirds of men notice balding by the age of sixty. For these cases specifically a hair transplant procedure is a viable and popular procedure for men of all ages.

HARRTS is a unique procedure that is well-suited for individuals who wear their hair short and do not have hairstyle restrictions after the procedure. This is great news for men who have been looking for a virtually scarless hair transplant procedure. If you’ve been interested in our FUE hair transplant procedure, the best way to determine your candidacy for hair implants would be to schedule your own consultation with a member of our specialist team.

How long does the New Jersey FUE hair replacement Procedure Take?

The procedure in most cases lasts between 5 to 6 hours. The process involves meticulously harvesting hair grafts using the Smart Handpiece. From there the donor follicles located at the back or sides of the head are typically resistant to DHT and will prove to have good staying power where they are grafted in. The patient can expect new thick, luscious hair to regrow in those previously sparse areas but some patience is required during this timeframe. Since natural hair growth cycles are still in effect, the hair will go through a “shock loss” phase. This phase normally takes place during the first month and will often be concerning to some patients but rest assured this process is completely normal and temporary.

In most instances, it’s better to wait a year before adding more density to the same treatment area. Following surgery of the crown, a different section, such as the frontal hairline, can be treated 4-6 months later.

Day 1-2:

The healing process will begin immediately after the procedure has been completed. The following morning you can expect to remove the bandage from the donor area. Patients may still experience some minor symptoms such as swelling, bleeding, or scabbing during this period of time however this is expected at this stage of the healing process. During the first few days post-surgery extra care should be taken around the transplant area and grafts to ensure that they are firmly planted- no direct pressure or friction is advised during this time.

Day 3-7:

Three days following your New York FUE hair transplant, patients can expect remaining swelling however can begin to wash their hair gently or use a spray on shampoo. In most cases, within the next few days post-procedure the swelling should be completely dissipated.

Day 7-14:

Following the first week after your procedure patients can expect that the majority of the transplanted hair grafts successfully took and you should avoid applying direct pressure to the scalp. It is important to avoid disturbing the area and any small scabs that may form during the healing process. These are an expected part of the healing process and will eventually slough off on their own over time. Until the micro-incision sites have been completely healed your surgeon will advise you to avoid swimming, hot tubs and other unnecessary exposure to bacteria.

Week 2-6:

This phase of the process produces remarkably realistic-looking results; however, it’s crucial to remember that the transplanted hair must first cycle through the natural stages of hair development before the ultimate result can be seen. As a result, expect shedding during the first two to six weeks after your hair restoration operation. Hair roots begin to collapse during this intermediate phase, which might result in hair loss; nevertheless, this is a normal and expected part of the recovery process and is not cause for concern. As it waits for a new hair to form, the follicle will remain healthy and established. Patients will suffer shedding for up to three months as their hair transitions from the Catagen stage to the Telogen or resting phase, but exciting new hair growth can be observed as early as three months following transplant.

3-6 Months:

Patients will witness fresh hair growth three months after receiving NY hair transplant procedure, when they enter the Anagen phase of the hair cycle. New hairs will start to grow in the transplanted area, and the procedure’s outcome will gradually become more visible. Hair texture and growth direction may fluctuate at first, but the thickness, pattern, and style of the new hair will settle in over time. It’s crucial to be patient throughout the process, as growing a thick head of hair isn’t something that happens immediately.

9-14 Months:

While new hair growth can be seen as soon as three months after surgery, full, ultimate hair thickness can take nine to fourteen months in many situations. The full result is usually evident after one year, although each patient’s experience will vary, and your healthy new hair will, of course, continue to grow.
